Awards & Recognitions

SIGNATURE CARDS

  • Child receives a special card on which to collect signatures.
  • Teacher may decide student deserves a signature for work, behavior, improvement, or other very significant reason.
  • Teacher invites Principal to come to room, or tells student to find principal on playground or after school.
  • Teacher marks good work paper with a "circle W" which stands for "special work".
  • Student presents special work or document to principal, and a signature is added to the signature card.
  • Students may redeem for school supply items at signature sales or may save twenty for out to lunch with principal.
  • One lunch with the Principal or Assistant Principal per year is standard, unless student is a "special case" and we are working on a special contract.

GOOD NEWS CARDS

  • Each teacher sends home postcards to each child during the year.
  • Purpose of good news cards is to provide specific reinforcement for each child, making each child understand that he or she has made a special contribution to his/her learning.
  • Good news cards are sent for behavior, academics, good choices, improvement, special project work, etc.
  • Parents' role is to celebrate this achievement and reinforce the teacher's message.

CARRILLO CARE AWARDS (HAPPY GRAMS)

  • Individual students are recognized for their good works around the school.
  • "C.C. Awards" are given for correct behavior choices, such as playing nicely, sharing, turning in lost items, letting someone in a game, being a good sport, cross-age tutoring, working at the ball cart, following school standards, and other good deeds.
  • Picking up balls that are left rolling around on the playground is especially helpful.
  • "C.C. Awards" are also given for cleaning up the school by picking up trash, helping clean cafeteria tables, picking up lost and found, keeping the table clean where the student is eating, and helping in the cafeteria.
  • When a student earns a Carrillo Care Award, she is given a little award slip. The student cuts off the bottom and places it in a collection jar in the office, in order to have a chance at a prize awarded at flag salute in a random drawing.
  • Supervisors will give out award points commensurate with the deed.
  • Parents are encouraged to ask students what he or she did to receive the awards, when the top part of the happy gram (CC Award) comes home.

CARRILLO SCHOOL STAR STUDENTS: GROUP AWARDS

  • Students are recognized as a class group for their correct choices or the way they are helping the school.
  • Adults give group awards to class groups for following the school standards in settings such as:
  • Library
  • Music
  • Computer Lab
  • Physical Education
  • Assemblies
  • Flag Salutes
  • Line Ups
  • Walking To and From the Classroom
  • Walking to Lunch
  • Rainy Day Lunch

7 Habits of Happy Kids Awards

  • 1-2 students from each class are recognized for each of our 7 habits each week.
  • The criteria is that the students must epitomize the habit for the week.
  • The teacher sends a notice home to parents that their child will be receiving this award.
  • Awards are presented at flag salute.
  • Parents are encouraged to reinforce the award at home by helping the child understand the type of behavior that resulted in this specific recognition.

TRIMESTER AWARDS

  • An academic award that is presented near the end of each trimester for grades 3-5 only. Categories are:
  • Language Arts
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Fine Arts
  • Citizenship
  • Achievement
  • PE (awarded at a different time, although same type of award)
  • Parents are notified and encouraged to attend the flag salute ceremony.
  • Students receive a certificate from the teacher

E.E.E AWARDS

  • Given to all students who have all "E" grades on the work habits part of the progress report.
  • Presented at the end of each trimester, in the classroom.
  • This award is for behavior, effort, homework, etc.
