Dear Carrillo Families,

Happy Easter and Happy Passover!

Thank you to everyone for your contributions to the paper drive! Your accumulated donations will allow us to get through the rest of the year without having to make a large purchase from our general fund for paper supplies, a savings of $1000s! A big thanks to Jill d’Artnenay and family for collecting paper every morning and managing the event. We also had a lot of fun at our Hawaiian themed lunch and poster raffle. Blair Mettee and Kristin Jenkins did a great job decorating and ensuring all of the students had a great time.

I also want to thank everyone who attended the Flippin Pizza dine out last Wednesday. We had a huge turnout and collected 50% of the profits from the evening’s sales. It was also lovely to create an opportunity for students and parents to interact and build stronger bonds outside of the school. A big thanks to Ms. Gidner, Ms. Jimenez, Ms. Hamilton, Ms. Bejarano, Ms. Falk, Ms. Odenwalder for your help serving the slices and Mr. Swonetz for supervising. We have a great community at Carrillo!!

SMENCIL Sales Are Back
The Student Council will be selling smencils throughout this week (starting tomorrow, April 22) during recess only. “Smencils” are scented pencils, and they cost $1. The money generated through the sales will go to the Student Council which they use to coordinate their efforts in school improvement. These smelly writing utensils are a big hit among students, so we limit sales to only 2 per day to ensure all of our students have an opportunity to purchase.

Wed. April 24th will be the ONLY day that Kinders can buy smecils at their recess. The Student Council members will come to kinder recess at 10:10 and 12:45.

LCAP Parent Survey
The Local Control Accountability Plan, LCAP Parent Survey is available on our school homepage. For easy access, please click here.

This survey is an opportunity to provide input into the LCAP (how the District spends money) and provide feedback based on your perceptions and experiences as parents of San Marcos students. I would very much appreciate it if you took the time to complete this survey. As a school site, we use the data gathered in this survey to set goals for the school and allocate resources (money) toward school improvement. We also gain a sense of the degree in which you feel that your voice is heard, that you are involved in your child’s education, that you feel that your child is safe, and so on. Put simply, I take these results very seriously and would love to have high participation to yield accurate/useful data.

Parent Information Nights at Carrillo
Please mark your calendars for the following parent information nights that will be offered by our school. As a parent, I know our number one goal is to keep our children safe. Although our children may be still too young for the following topics to be a big concern, I see this as an opportunity to gain knowledge ahead of time to help keep them safe.

“Social Media Safety” Presented by John Moffit: April 23 at 6 pm.
“Drug Trends and Prevention”: May 1 at 6 pm

School Site Council meeting this week
Our next School Site Council meeting will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 5:30 in the library. We will evaluate our goal progress for this year and start brainstorming ideas for next year, including the creation of a new system for support for all students. All parents are welcome to attend.

Flag Salute and Awards Ceremony for “Empathy”
Friday, April 26 at 8:45. All of the students who are receiving the Citizen of the Month Award, and their parents, are invited to a ceremony after the Flag Salute where either Mrs. Keeton or I will present their awards.

Carrillo Magic Show
The Magician Brock Edwards will be coming back to Carrillo on Friday, April 26 for a family magic show. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased with the order form that went home with students on Thursday. You can watch a preview of the show by clicking on this link. In addition to the show, Mr. Taco will be there selling food. Proceeds from the show and food purchases go back to Carrillo. This will be the last family event of the year so we hope you can make it. Weather permitting it will be outside and we will be able to sell as many tickets as we would like. However, if the weather does not cooperate, we will be moving the performance to the MPR, at which case, tickets will be lilimited.
Volunteers for the Magic Show are Needed!

The Leo Carrillo Ranch parking lot will be closed every Friday for the remainder of the year due to wedding season. We will still be opening the back gate if you park in the neighborhood or for your child to walk home.

Spring Fling and Auction (Parents Only)
The Annual Spring Fling Auction is back, and better than ever! Come join fellow Carrillo parents and teachers May 18th at 5:30 pm at St. Mark Golf Club as we enjoy a night out and raise money for Carrillo Elementary. The event will feature an outdoor lounge, casino, music by DJ Sam, wine pull, gourmet heavy hors d'oeuvres, hosted bar, and of course our signature auction. Our theme this year will be "The White Party" so come dressed to impress in your best all-white attire (you don’t need to wear white to attend, just dress comfortably). All proceeds from the event will go back to Carrillo Elementary to help develop our students into leaders of the future. Don't miss the best event of the year. Tickets are on sale now.
