December 1, 2019
Dear Carrillo Families,

Character Focus

Our character trait focus for this month is "gratitude," which has a great connection to the season of giving and our Camp Pendleton Food and Diaper Drive. As discussed by our Student Council members at the last Flag Salute, if students express gratitude, which is an appreciation for what you've been given, they lead happier, more fulfilling lives and strengthen their relationships with others. When students express gratitude, they tend to be kinder, more cooperative and patient, and trusting. Please see to read more about gratitude and how it can be emphasized at home.

Running Club Charm Giveaway

Welcome back, Carrillo Runners! To encourage everyone to get back on the running track after Thanksgiving, we will be doing a charm giveaway on Monday. Run one lap and get a charm for your necklace!

Plus, we are introducing our new Olympic charm for December. Run 20 laps before December 20 and collect the next sport’s charm.

New School Lunch Items!

A few of our Carrillo Parents have partnered with our District's Child Nutrition Services department to provide feedback on the current lunch offerings and to assist in making improvements to the school lunches. In addition to achieving better quality and service enhancements, the District is now offering new lunch items that will be provided at Carrillo only during December and to the rest of the District after the new year. Please see the attached schedule and encourage your children to try out the new items. As you can see on the fliers, these new items provide a vegan/vegetarian option for students who would like to avoid meat and still eat a balanced meal full of nutritious food. Thank you to all of the parents that are assisting in this endeavor to provide healthier options for our kids!

Speak Up Survey is open until December 27th

Parents: Please take the Speak Up Survey. We only have a few people who have completed this so far so I would be very grateful to anyone who took a few minutes to get this done. The information gained is used by our District’s technology department to make improvements and plan for the future. You are welcome to come on campus to use one of our computers. Please call me, and I will set up a time for you to visit (760 290-2904).

Be a part of the conversation! Starting now, we will be participating in the Speak Up Research Project for Digital Learning. Speak Up is and was the first online research tool designed to help parents share their ideas directly with schools and national policymakers. Speak Up provides parents with a mechanism for expressing their views to the administrators at their child(ren)’s school and district about key issues impacting their child(ren)'s education.

Since 2003, Speak Up has collected and shared the views of more than 5.4 million students, teachers, and parents from all 50 states, as well as internationally. By participating in Speak Up, parents are expressing their views to a wider audience of local, state, and national policymakers as well as the business community—and contributing to the national dialogue about how best to prepare students for the future.

Speak Up is open to students, educators, and parents; it’s quick and easy to get involved.

To participate, visit: and select the Parent option.

All participation is confidential. Questions take about 20 minutes to complete.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your views with us! We need your input!
