Dear Carrillo Families,

Kids Heart Challenge Recap
We did a great job raising money for the Kids Heart Challenge. Please see the message below from the American Heart Association. We are still waiting for the individual prizes to arrive and hope to distribute them before winter break. Thank you to all the families that participated in helping Carrillo earn money for this important cause! #carrillocoltscare!!

Dear Carrillo Elementary,

I wanted to thank you all for your support and your amazing community! You have all greatly made a difference. Not only did your students get to learn about taking care of their health but they also helped fund future heart research.

Carrillo Elementary helped raise $4,870 for the American Heart Association. THANK YOU!

As a thank you, we are giving back $300 in a US Game Certificate for PE supplies and/or whatever you want!

Big shout out to London George in Gidner’s 3rd-grade class for raising $405!

This Week

- Monday, December 10, at 11 am (for AM class) and 12:15 pm (for PM class)

(5th-Grade Only) Healthy Kids Survey permission slips- if you haven’t returned the consent form you received, please do so ASAP. We want to administer the survey this week and need your consent form returned so your child can participate.

Carrillo’s 18th Annual Camp Pendleton Food Drive
The 18th Annual Camp Pendleton Food Drive is in full swing! This drive is a wonderful way to show our Camp Pendleton Marine families how much we appreciate the sacrifices they make for us. We are looking for donations of canned/boxed/packaged food items, diapers and baby wipes. All donations go directly to the Camp Pendleton Marine families. Please make sure all food items have an expiration date of 2019 or later. We have to throw away a lot of donations that already have past expiration dates.

Our 5th-Grade Girl Scout volunteers will be in front of the school during morning drop-offs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings every week. Please hand your items to the Girl Scouts and inform them which grade level should get credit for the items. They will help carry your donated items to our collection area. The grade level that collects the most cans by the end of this week will receive additional recess with music! The grand prize for the grade level that collects the most cans by Thursday, December 20th will be extra recess immediately after the Flag Salute on December 21st. All donated items will be presented to the Camp Pendleton Marines at our Flag Salute on Friday, December 21st. #carrillocoltscare

Beanie/Winter Hat Drive
A few students from LCM and Carrillo are coordinating a beanie/winter hat drive to assist those in need that live in North County. Please see below and help them out with this important cause.

Help us share warmth with community members in need by donating new or gently used winter hats. Beanies will be collected in a donation box at Carrillo until December 17th and then distributed by the Community Resource Center. Thanks for your #carrillocoltscare!

Box Tops Update- **Please continue to have your child collect box tops and give them to their teacher.

Wristbands will be issued upon arrival - tickets are not necessary. Please arrive between 5:15 and 5:45 pm - attendees will be put into colored wristband groups according to arrival time. If there are friends you want to be grouped with, you should plan to arrive at the same time to be in the same group. Each group will play two games of laser tag.
Pizza and subway sandwiches (pre-order only) will be served between 6-7pm.
If there are any questions, please contact Jennifer Kerschbaum at Looking forward to seeing you all this week!

Reminder Regarding Personal Toys
Students should not bring personal toys to school. They become a distraction to the learning environment and are frequently lost, causing anxiety for the children. If students are at a loss for what to do during recess and lunch, please let me know, and we can brainstorm additional activities to provide students to keep them busy. Please remind your children not to bring their toys from home. Thank you!
