Dear Carrillo Families,

School Resumes- Monday, January 14

Happy New Year!! I hope everyone had a restful break and are as eager as I am to re-open Carrillo’s doors to all of our amazing students, staff members, and volunteers. The second half of the year is always a little busier than the first with many exciting events. Thank you all for staying involved and up-to-date by reading these newsletters, checking the PTO website and reviewing the updates from your child’s teacher. I know it is a lot to keep organized and I appreciate your dedication to our school. If you ever see any discrepancies between my newsletter, the PTO calendar, the website, a remind.com text or any other form of communication, please let me know by sending me an email or responding to a text.

Camp Pendleton Food Drive and Flag Salute- I would be remiss without one more THANK YOU to everyone for your participation in the Camp Pendleton Food Drive. Our goal was to fill up five pallets of items, and we ended with seven! In surveying the items, Colonel Yaroslakski expressed gratitude on behalf of the young Marines, especially for all of the diapers and wipes which we all know become a significant part of the budget during those early years of parenthood. Special thanks to Kristy Toma-Tlalka, Lee Ann Shandle, and the Girls Scouts (and Moms) of Troop 1131 for your relentless dedication to this cause. We also held a beautiful flag salute to honor the Marines. Not counting our special guests, we checked in over 580 visitors Friday morning! As a new member of this community, I am still learning what it means to be Carrillo Colt and Friday was an excellent example of amazing spirit and unique camaraderie of the Carrillo family.

Welcome Back/Behavior Assemblies (teachers and students only)- Monday, January 14 in cafeteria/MPR. Mrs. Keeton and I will be kicking the second half of the year off on a positive note by providing students important behavior reminders, so everyone is able to stay safe, have fun, and be productive at school. I have attached the powerpoint that we will use so you can see the message that your child will be receiving (this is for 1st-5 grade only, kindergarten’s presentation will be much shorter and applicable to their playground). As parents, you all play a critical role in helping us maintain a positive environment on campus by providing information that we may not be aware of and sharing your perspective which helps shape our system. Please email or call Mrs. Keeton or me if you hear or see anything that should be addressed or if you have any questions/comments regarding our rules and behavior expectations. A more complete list of our behavior policies is outlined in the parent handbook which can be found on the front page of our website.

Flag Salute- January 18 @ 8:45 to introduce the Character Trait: “Social Intelligence.”

Carrillo 5k Run- This Saturday, January 19. The run will take place rain or shine. Currently, the forecast shows sun on Saturday, so hopefully, it will stay that way.
I'm looking forward to seeing you at this great event!

PTO Meeting- The January PTO meeting has been canceled. The next PTO meeting is Friday, February 1 at 1:30 pm in the cafeteria.

No School in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday- Monday, January 21, 2018

5th-Grade Panoramic Photo- Fifth graders will be taking a panoramic class picture on Thursday, January 31. Fifth-grade promotion shirts will be distributed on this day to wear in the picture. Please keep these shirts throughout the year, as there are several class events where they will be worn.
Special Someone Dance- Saturday, February 1.

Thank you,
