Dear Carrillo Families,

Thank you for a great first week back to school. There were several emails that went out last week. Here are a few highlights in case you missed them-

  1. New Independent Study Agreements are available for you to sign on ParentVUE. This agreement is tied to a new law in California (AB 130) that ensures students continue to receive instruction while in quarantine (due to being a close contact, testing positive for COVID, having symptoms, etc.). At Carrillo, each grade level has developed its own google classroom or another independent homework plan, to deliver to students digitally when they need to miss school. Your classroom teacher can provide you with the google classroom link. My suggestion…the best thing a student can do while at home continues to work on their iReady My Path assignments. This program is specifically tailored to your child’s needs based on their last Diagnostic and will help fill any holes or continue to accelerate your child’s academic progress.
  2. Test Kits- We distributed COVID Test Kits on Thursday. If your child didn’t receive one, they will be provided this week. These can be used for asymptomatic students who have been identified as a possible close contact to return to school, for a family’s “peace of mind” before visiting loved ones, or however you see fit.
  3. Changes to our procedures for possible exposure- As opposed to identifying close contact when a COVID positive was on campus and sending different letters home depending on their level of potential contact, we are now sending one letter home to the entire class to let all parents know of “possible exposure”. We are NOT currently investigating each case to identify specific close contacts (those that actually sat within a 6ft radius of someone, played with someone, ate lunch, etc.). I’m also not sending a “community letter” home after each case either because you would be receiving the same letter from me multiple times per day (we had five COVID exposure cases on Thursday alone). With this information, please take a look at the information below regarding our safety measures. Now more than ever, we are reliant on the cooperation of all families to keep their children home when not feeling well, accurately reporting COVID positives at home, and reminding students to wear a mask, wash their hands, and avoid unnecessary close contact on campus! We are committed to remaining open to in-person learning AND doing everything in our power to limit the spread on campus. It has been working very well with EVERYONE’s support, so let’s keep up the great work, Carrillo!

COVID Reminders

Masks will continue to be used indoors at school at all times. It would help us greatly if you ensure your child brings a mask to school each day and packs an extra mask. Currently, we are handing out over 100 masks per day and it has been challenging to ensure we have the correct size for each student.

Please do not send your child to school with any symptoms or if they have been exposed to an individual that has tested positive for COVID. If your child has symptoms of COVID, please go to one of the District testing sites.

Students will be encouraged to wash their hands regularly and maintain distance as much as possible.
