Dear Carrillo Families,

We are so excited to see our PreK, TK, kindergarten, and 1st-grade students returning to campus this week and look forward to 2nd-5th graders arriving in February. We will be resuming all of our safety procedures that reduce the chances of COVID transmission on campus. Here are some brief reminders:

  1. Complete the LumiSight pre-screening EACH DAY your child attends school. If possible, please “screenshot” the clearance badge and show this to school staff from the car pickup lane. Remember- the username is your child’s SMUSD email address. If you hit the “Forgot Password” option, instructions will be sent to your child’s email account, which can be accessed on cloud.smusd.org.
  2. Please do not send your child to school with any COVID related symptoms, if they have tested positive for COVID-19, or have been ordered to quarantine due to exposure to someone who tested positive.
  3. Please report all absences, including Mondays. The “Absence Reporting Form” is located on the home page of our website. https://carrilloelementary.smusd.org/
  4. Please review the symptom Decision Tree to be informed of the District procedures regarding COVID related symptoms: Decision Tree chart.pdf. If any COVID related symptom is reported or identified on campus, your child will be required to isolate for 10 days or attain a negative test result. If a negative test result is provided, your child may return to school 72 hours after the is symptom resolved. This procedure does not apply to any symptoms related to a documented pre-existing condition.
  5. Students must wear a mask on campus the entire time they are at school except for eating and drinking. Students are also required to wash their hands frequently and watch their distance from others. We have procedures to ensure students are not coming within 6ft of each other for any prolonged amount of time.
  6. Pack a water bottle. Although none of the drinking fountains on campus are in operation, the District installed bottle filling stations throughout the campus. Please send your child with a refillable water bottle to ensure they stay hydrated. Disposal water bottles are available for students upon request. 
  7. Drop Off and Pick Up Times:

AM PreK-1st- Drop Off @ 8 am-8:15 am, Pick up @ 10:45 am

PM PreK-1st Drop Off @ 12 pm-12:15 pm, Pick up @ 2:45 pm

Drop Off Reminder- be prepared to show the LumiSight badge and have your child wearing a mask

Pick-Up Reminder- Please display your child’s dashboard sign and pull your car up to the end of the lane.

THANK YOU for supporting these procedures. I feel confident that these procedures will continue to keep all students and staff members safe. Despite multiple cases that have been identified on campus, none of the cases originated on campus nor led to further infections. Together, we can continue to keep Carrillo safe!

Return to In-Person Instruction

At the January 19th School Board meeting, the School Board approved the following phase-in plan for all elementary schools. All students will return to the hybrid format (AM/PM for PreK-1st and AB/Two Days per week for 2nd-5th).

Returning to in-person January 26th (Prek will return January 25th)

Preschool (1/25), Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Grade 1

All elementary specialized special education programs

(this does not apply to Carrillo since we do not have any specialized programs except PreK)

Returning to in-person on February 16th

Grades 2 and 3

Returning to in-person on February 23rd

Grades 4 and 5

*The Board will continue to review State and local guidance, monitor County COVID-19 case rates, and assess school site infrastructure to ensure that students will be able to return on the above dates. Any changes to these plans will be shared in a timely manner with our families.

Carrillo’s Annual Talent Show!!

The virtual Talent Show will be Saturday, Jan 30th, 5 pm-7 pm.

Report Cards and Parent-Teacher Conferences

Semester 1 report cards will be delivered electronically via ParentVUE. You will be able to view your child's report card under "Documents" by February 4. Please note that all grades within each domain represent student progress on the standards taught thus far in the school year.

This year, you will not see a comments section on the report card because the report card delivery coincides with the parent-teacher conference.

Parent-teacher conferences, typically held in October, have been scheduled for February 5th-11th. During this week, students will have virtual minimum days on February 5, 9, 10, and 11 from 8:30 am - 11 am. February 8 is a non-student day. Teachers will set up a virtual conference schedule and communicate with families over the next few weeks.

*This schedule applies to all elementary students (TK-5th grade) throughout San Marcos Unified School District.

**The PreK schedule will be the same (in-person) except Monday, 2/8 is a non-student day (no school)

School Picture Day

Dates:

January 29th for PreK, TK, Kinder, and 1st grade during and LEVS TK-2nd.

Times:

AM/PM Hybrid Students will have pictures taken throughout the instructional day

TK-2nd LEVS will need to drive to the school between 3 pm - 4 pm  

**2nd-5th Grade Picture Day- Now that we have a return date, we will coordinate with the photography company and schedule a date shortly. 

SMUSD Superintendent Search

The Governing Board of the San Marcos Unified School District is seeking staff and community input in its search for a new superintendent. This survey is designed to gather your perceptions about the state of the District along with the experiences and characteristics you believe are important for the incoming superintendent to possess.
