Principal’s Newsletter
Carrillo Elementary School

June 9, 2019

Dear Carrillo Families,

I can’t believe I am writing my final newsletter of the 2018-2019 school year! It has been such a pleasure being your child’s principal. Thank you for your involvement in our school this year. We had high-levels participation in many family events, picnics, dine outs, fundraisers, PTO, classroom volunteering, and much more. Our actively engaged community is really what makes Carrillo an exceptional place to learn, play, and grow. I’m so proud to be a member and look forward to next year!

Final Flag Salute
On June 12 at 8:45 am, we will hold our final Flag Salute of the year. We will introduce our last character trait, “Curiosity.” According to character lab, “When you’re curious about something, you process it deeply, rather than superficially. You also voluntarily spend more time learning about things that spark your curiosity. As a result, you more readily remember what you learn.” To send students off to summer break with summer reading lists, active digital resources, and a challenge to explore and create, we felt “curiosity” was the perfect character trait to introduce. Generally, our message will be “Stay Curious, Colts” and to spend time this summer engaging with family and friends in activities that spark their interests. Most importantly, students should READ as much as possible. The local libraries have great summer reading programs that I encourage everyone to take advantage of. Students can also keep a journal or write poetry to continue to hone with writing skills. We also keep Clever (Lexia and Dreambox) active throughout the summer. Please click here for the directions.

End of Year Musical Performances- Thank you, Mrs. Odenwalder, for working with all of our students on wonderful performances. Your talent and creativity are always so impressive! We have two remaining performances, 5th grade during promotion and kinder on the last day of school at 10 am in the MPR. I can’t wait to see what our oldest and youngest Colts have prepared!
