Dear Carrillo Families,

This week we will officially kick off our Read-A-Thon School Fundraiser! A brochure/pamphlet was sent home with your child last week. The campaign will last between March 15 and March 26th and will take the place of all other fundraisers we typically do throughout the year such as the jog-a-thon, book fair, Fall Bash, and golf tournament that were canceled due to COVID restrictions. We are excited to celebrate and encourage reading over the next two weeks and highlight all the joy that comes with making reading a daily exercise. Since every student is on a different reading journey and has their own particular interests, we have encouraged each child to set their own reading goals as opposed to making a set goal for each child. As a result, we will only be accepting flat donations on the fundraising page, as opposed to per minute, chapter, book, etc. Basically, students will be raising money for the school while simultaneously pledging to fulfill their personal reading goals. Students will also have the opportunity to earn prizes which will be handed out via daily classroom visits by Mrs. Odenwalder during the event.

For the fundraising side, we're using an awesome web-based fundraising system called Pledgestar that makes it much easier for you to request pledges from your family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online.

Remember, our Read-A-Thon starts tomorrow, so please register now:

Go to http://pledgestar.com/carrillo

Click “Not Registered For This Year’s Event”

Enter your name and email address, then click “Submit”

Follow the instructions on-screen to register students

When you finish, the system emails pledge requests to your family and friends and allows them to make secure credit card donations online. You get notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress online.

Tomorrow, Monday, 3/15, we will officially kick off the campaign via virtual pep rallies. Feel free to tune in if you are available. We will also be announcing our monthly character awards, iReady raffle awards, and recognizing our yearbook cover finalists.

Tomorrow’s Schedule:

Kindergarten-1st @8:30 am

2nd-3rd-grade @ 9 am

4th-5th-grade @ 9:30

To maintain excitement and fun throughout the Read-A-Thon campaign, and hopefully introduce students to new genres to expand their reading repertoire, Mrs. McCoy designed a genre dress-up schedule. Below is a quick rundown of the dress-up days. The dress-up days repeat for both A and B cohorts but students in AM/PM cohorts will only dress up one of the days. To kick off the Graphic Novel/Superhero Day, Carrillo Alumni Bryce Keeton created this animated promo video: https://youtu.be/BoPS-C1FJLk which we hope you enjoy.

Students in LEVS and Cohorts B and AM, are welcome to walk on campus for a retake between 3-4. However, if your child needs to make up their picture and you need to bring them earlier, we will accommodate you. As a reminder, all students must complete the LumiSight pre-screening before coming on campus.

Follow Up Check-In Survey

Earlier in the year, our School Social Worker, Martha Vargas, sent out a survey to check in with families. This is a follow-up to that survey to get a pulse check on the community. Please complete the survey if you have a moment. This survey will give us important information to consider as many of our families are now in the hybrid learning environment. Thank you!
