Dear Carrillo Families,

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and staying safe and healthy during this challenging time. Mrs. Keeton and I have enjoyed seeing our LEVS students engage in their remote learning environment, as well as seeing our hybrid students on campus. The children have been doing an excellent job in these new learning formats and likely growing in life skills and character traits that will promote their self-sufficiency and resiliency in future challenges.

Academically, it has been wonderful to see student growth in the essential standards, especially in reading, writing, and mathematics. Thankfully, Shannon Williams, our Literacy Teacher on Special Assignment, continues to implement our tiered intervention system that monitors all student learning and provides essential interventions for students that require additional support. She works tirelessly to ensure all students remain on an upward trajectory and accelerates learning to close learning gaps. We are fortunate to have her lead the way in this effective system!

COVID Reminder

We are happy to see the county's declining case rate and hoping that translates to fewer cases within our Carrillo community. As a reminder, we must send an entire cohort/class home for remote learning if a COVID positive case is reported in the classroom. Overall, parents have been doing an amazing job of keeping their children home due to any COVID-related symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to a COVID-positive individual. This has prevented us from having to quarantine many classrooms! By working together, sharing vital information when necessary, and keeping children home when they aren't feeling well, we can keep Carrillo safe and continue to attend school in person. THANK YOU, and please continue to follow the procedures and guidelines as we continue to fight this disease.

Pick Up Reminder

When picking up your child from school, please do not cut the line unless directed to do so by a staff member. Once your child is in your car, it is okay to merge into the left and exit the school. However, please do not drive around cars to reach the front of the line or where your child is standing. We have seen many near accidents due to this, and it disrupts the flow of pick-up. Our procedure is to have all cars pull all of the way forward to load many cars at once. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Major School Fundraiser: Carrillo Read-A-Thon

Next week, we are excited to kick-off an entirely new fundraising event this year, the Carrillo Read-A-Thon! This will be our largest fundraising campaign of the year and will take the place of the Apex Fun Run. This fundraiser officially starts March 15th and will conclude on March 26th. The event has been built from the ground up by PTO members and school staff. I will be sending out all of the information and an introductory video for parents on Thursday of this week and hold kick-off pep rallies virtually on Monday, 3/15. This academically focused fundraiser's culminating activity will be our annual Literature Day Parade on March 25 and 26th! We are looking forward to offering something new and innovative for students and are excited to share the details with you this week.

School Pictures

We have concluded school pictures and are working with our photography company, Gerardy, on make-up days for any student or staff member that did not get their picture taken. I will send out the make-up days and times when that information is available.

Follow Up Check-In Survey

Earlier in the year, our School Social Worker, Martha Vargas, sent out a survey to check in with families. This is a follow-up to that survey to get a pulse check on the community. Please complete the survey if you have a moment. This survey will give us important information to consider as many of our families are now in the hybrid learning environment. Thank you!
