Dear Carrillo Families,

We had a fantastic Read Across America week at Carrillo. The student council did an outstanding job scheduling fun activities to promote reading on campus. Last week was capped off with our first annual Literature Day Parade organized by our assistant principal, Mrs. Keeton, and our librarian, Mrs. McCoy. Hats off to Mrs. Keeton and Mrs. McCoy, who, with the help of all staff members, students, and many parents, created a fabulous event that celebrated all things literature! Our hope is that every student left the event excited to read a new book (or several new books)! Here is the list of books along with the synopsis read by Mrs. McCoy Literature Parade. Please read through this list with your children to see what caught their eye during the parade. All of these books can be checked out in our library, just go see Mrs. Frizzle...I mean Mrs. McCoy!

APEX Fundraiser and Fun Run

THANK YOU to all families that have already supported this important fundraiser or plan to do so this week. The students have enjoyed the classroom visits and character lessons. We are well on our way toward making this a successful event but need a big push this week. We are still monitoring the weather forecast and will be sending out a final plan tomorrow regarding any changes to our run days/times.

This fundraiser will be funding the following programs-

-intervention teachers

-technology in the classroom (Chrome books, iPads)

-special events for students and families (Bingo Night, Movie Night, etc.)

-digital resources (Reflex, Brainpop, etc.)

-Scholastic magazine

-Mystery Science

-engaging assemblies

-sound system and materials for Flag Salutes

-STEM lab and technology

-STEM lab instructor

-material resources for the classroom

-lunchtime activities coordinator

-playground equipment

-and much more!

Our site budget would be very limited without these fundraisers, so thank you SO much for considering your family's participation.

Volunteers are needed for the fun run! Please click this link for more information.

Fifth Grade Spelling Bee,

Congratulations to our Spelling Bee champion, Giovanina Kelley, and to all of the Spelling Bee Participants. We will be honoring all you at the March 27 Flag Salute. Great job, students!!

Parent Vue/CAASPP State Testing Reports

The District’s goal is to have all CAASPP score reporting and, eventually, class placement and report card information to be delivered through Synergy’s ParentVUE app/website. This is why you haven’t received a hard copy of your student’s scores yet this year. Those of you with middle school and high school students are familiar with this app and use it to check grades.

Many of the activation codes were sent to Spam/Junk. Since I have received several emails from parents stating that they couldn’t find the activation codes, I had the District re-send the emails this week. Please lookout for an email from “Synergy” ( for your personalized activation codes. If you cannot find the message, please send me an email at, and I will pull your activation code manually. Thank you!

Please carpool as much as possible. We have very limited parking. We do our best to fit as many cars as we can on the blacktop. Please help us by carpooling with your spouse or parking off-campus to ensure cars aren’t stuck in the lot or start parking illegally. Please do not park on any red curbs as these indicate fire lanes.
Popsicle Sales

After school popsicle sales will resume every Friday unless notified otherwise. The “popsicles” are actually 100% fruit pops sold for $1 to fund 5th-grade activities.

Childhood cancer fundraising:

The family of 3rd grader Micah Bernstein, a cancer survivor and a 2020 ambassador for the St. Baldrick's Foundation (the largest private funder of childhood cancer research), is participating in a head-shaving fundraiser. They would like to invite any interested Carrillo families to show their support through a tax-deductible donation, attending the March 14 event, or joining team Micah's Minions and helping to raise money to fund better and safer treatments for childhood cancer. Participation is open to kids and adults, and head-shaving is optional.

You can donate to Micah's fundraising at or join the team at

Contact Jeff or Kate Bernstein at with any questions.
