Dear Carrillo Families,

We are nearing the end of the school year and looking forward to several exciting events coming up soon. We will have a school-wide, “PJ DJ” Day this Friday to celebrate our hugely successful Read-A-Thon! Students (and staff) are invited to wear pajamas and bring one small stuffed animal. Mrs. Keeton and I will play music and have a dance party with each grade level throughout the day. All social distancing and cohorting procedures will be followed. LEVS students are encouraged to wear PJs to class as well!

May 17th Community Update in English and Spanish

Dr. Tiffany Campbell, Interim Superintendent, sent a community update last week that includes important information regarding the 2021-2022 school year, our mask policy, and KOC information. If you missed the message, please click here to review. The message is particularly important for any families that do not want to attend school in person next year. As opposed to live, daily instruction in the LEVS model, the District will be offering a homeschool program for the 2021-2022 school year instead. Please see the video for more information on the 2021-2022 school models. 

Chromebook Return Survey 

Please complete the Chromebook Return Survey at your earliest convenience to indicate whether or not you’d like to keep your child’s Chromebook over the summer. Mrs. McCoy will be collecting Chromebooks from all 5th-graders (excluding LEVS) on Friday, June 4th. Everyone that is either attending a different school in the fall or would rather not keep the Chromebook over the summer, will return their device during school hours on June 8 or June 9th. Final Desk Return

If you still have a desk and chair, please return it to the school on Monday, June 7 between 12:15 pm - 3:15 pm. Desks can be unloaded from the KOC loop, on the side of the Multipurpose room. Please refer to this map for desk return.gif to identify the highlighted drop location. 

Enrollment for 2021-2022 

Registration for the 2021-2022 school year is now open. All NEW student registrations must be completed by parents via ParentVUE. If you have a younger child entering Carrillo next year or have neighbors and friends who have inquired about enrolling into Carrillo for the Fall, please share this link ( explains the process and has live links to ParentVUE.

Currently enrolled students DO NOT need to do anything for registration at this time. All currently enrolled families, with the exception of PreK students and 5th graders, will automatically roll up to the next grade level. We will be asking you to complete a residency verification prior to the start of the school year. However, if you have neighbors and friends that did not attend Carrillo this year and are planning to attend in the fall, please forward them the enrollment information and encourage them to enroll now. I greatly appreciate your support!  

2021-2022 School Year

We are excited to return to a five-day per week schedule next year. Our District plans to have 1st-5th graders return to the daily bell schedule of 8:45 am - 3:10 pm (Wednesday is early release at 2:10). 

We are also excited for kindergarten to return to the extended day model. Next year, to ensure adequate instructional support for each kindergarten class, the hours will be from 8:15 am - 1:40 pm (Monday-Friday). Kindergarteners will eat lunch on campus and have recess. However, due to the limited number of special classes and child developmental considerations, we will have our kinders attend school for an extended day rather than a full day. Transitional Kinder will continue to be a half-day program (8:15 am - 11:50 am), and our Special Education Preschool will return to its regular schedule as well. 

Kindergarten FAQs

  1. If I have a kindergartener and a 1st-5th grader, will I be able to drop both children off at once?

            Answer- Yes! The kindergarten drop-off will be between 8:00 am - 8:15 am. The 1st-5th grade drop-off will be between 8:15 am - 8:45 am. However, if you are dropping off a kindergartener and older sibling, the older sibling will be able to wait near the main entrance/black gate until their 8:15 am ingress time. 

  1. Will there be a kindergarten enrichment camp offered after school to line up to the 1st-5th grade release time (1:40-3:10)?

            Answer- Tentative yes. We are working with the District office and PTO to bring back after-school enrichment camps. The kindergarten class is the priority, and we will be sending out an interest survey as soon as we receive permission to restart this program. 

Kids On Campus (KOC) 

Kids on Campus will return for the 2021-2022 School Year! Registration will take place over the summer. Here is the link to the KOC page ( on the District website to stay up to date on all registration information. 

After-School Enrichment 

We are evaluating the feasibility of bringing back after-school enrichment camps. Please stay tuned for more information. 

School Site Council Ballot 

Thank you, David Gallagher, Kelly Hill, Jessica Kunsman, Francisco Ortega, and Robert Redfield for your willingness to serve as a parent representative on our School Site Council! 

Parents- it is time to vote for your representatives. The School Site Council consists of 12 members, six staff members, and six parents, who all serve a two-year term (except the principal, I stay on the council continuously). We have two vacancies on the council for this voting year. Please select two candidates using the electronic ballot below.

As a reminder, the School Site Council is an elected group of parents and staff who serve as an advisory group to the Principal. The meetings are held once a month at times/dates selected by the committee. The primary function of this group is to provide information and advice on the School Plan for Student Achievement, the School Safety Plan, as well as review budgetary information.  This committee does not deal with fundraising or other areas covered by the PTO.

Volunteer Appreciation Drive Through

Whether you have served as a room parent, School Site Council Representative, PTO parent, or volunteer for 5th-grade Promotion, the students and staff of Carrillo Elementary appreciate you! Although volunteerism has looked very different this year due to the COVID restrictions, many parents continued working hard to support the school in many creative ways. We want to extend our gratitude in a drive-through parade on Monday, May 24, at 10 am. Since staff members will be outside for the drive-through, remote instruction will end a little early at 9:45 am that day. If you have served as a volunteer this year, please join us tomorrow!

Additional Information 

Parents will use the LumiSight website (not the app) to complete a symptom screening on the day of the event. On the login page, click on “I Am A Visitor,” which is below the “Log In” button. Here is a screenshot of the website. Please have a screenshot of the clearance badge ready when you enter campus. 

There will be no Zoom Meetings or remote learning assignments for 5th-graders on Monday, June 7. 

Students will arrive with their parents/guardians on Monday, June 7, and leave with their parents immediately following the ceremony. 

Students will not be able to take pictures with their teacher immediately following the promotion. However, we will take a picture of your child with their teacher and promotion certificate the following day and send you the photograph. 

Students will participate in a 5th-grade field day on Tuesday, June 8, during the school day. Unfortunately, we aren’t allowed to have visitors on campus for this event but look forward to creating a memorable experience for the children. 

If you purchased a 5th-grade sign, we will distribute them to your child after school this week.
