Dear Carrillo Families,

I hope you are having a meaningful Memorial Day as we honor our military heroes who have died while serving our nation. Carrillo is proud to honor the military and forever grateful to our families in the armed forces.

Knights of the RoundTable

The Knights of the RoundTable, student leaders from San Marcos High School, created a video for elementary schools to encourage children to live healthy, productive lives and get involved with extracurricular activities. This video is just shy of 13 mins and each Knight talks about what they are involved in, how they pursue their goals, future goals, and tips for staying mentally and physically strong. Please preview the video and decide if you would like to watch it with your children. We will also be passing out the Knights of the RoundTable “cards” for students that would like them.

Annual Residency Verification for Continuing Carrillo Students: Opens Tomorrow!

All continuing families must complete residency verification each year to remain enrolled at Carrillo Elementary School for the next school year. Residency Verification will be made available starting June 1 through Synergy’s ParentVUE portal. Parents will be able to select the 2021-2022 Residency Verification option from their ParentVUE portal and will have the ability to review any personal information that we have on file for their family and make changes to their child’s emergency contacts. Additionally, parents will need to review/accept the Annual Notifications.

Starting tomorrow, if you have any questions about the residency verification process or ParentVue please visit the District’s ParentVue page where you can find instructions on how to complete the package for Residency Verification in English and Spanish, as well as links to our FAQ’s where you can get most of your questions answered.

After School Enrichment Camp Update

Good news! The District has permitted us to restart our Carrillo Programs after-school enrichment classes. Since this is run through the Carrillo PTO, and not directly by the school, an interest survey, signups, and payments are made through our Carrillo Programs Coordinator and the PTO website. We will begin planning the camps, including a kinder-only after-school class to cover the time gap between kinder and 1st-5th dismal. Please look for more information coming soon.

School Site Council Ballot

Thank you, David Gallagher, Kelly Hill, Jessica Kunsman, Francisco Ortega, and Robert Redfield, for your willingness to serve as a parent representative on our School Site Council!

Parents- it is time to vote for your representatives. The School Site Council consists of 12 members, six staff members, and six parents, all of who serve a two-year term (except the Principal, I stay on the council continuously). We have two vacancies on the council for this voting year. Please select two candidates using the electronic ballot below.

2021-2022 School Site Council Ballot *Please complete the ballot by Friday, June 4th.

As a reminder, the School Site Council is an elected group of parents and staff who serve as an advisory group to the Principal. The meetings are held once a month at times/dates selected by the committee. The primary function of this group is to provide information and advice on the School Plan for Student Achievement, the School Safety Plan, as well as review budgetary information.  This committee does not deal with fundraising or other areas covered by the PTO.

Chromebook Return Survey

Please complete the Chromebook Return Survey at your earliest convenience to indicate whether or not you’d like to keep your child’s Chromebook over the summer. Mrs. McCoy will be collecting Chromebooks from all 5th-graders (excluding LEVS) on Friday, June 4th. Everyone that is either attending a different school in the fall, or would rather not keep the Chromebook over the summer, will return their device during school hours on June 8 or June 9th. Please see the survey for more information.

Final Desk Return

If you still have a desk and chair, please return it to the school on Monday, June 7 between 12:15-3:15. Desks can be unloaded from the KOC loop, on the side of the multipurpose room.

June 9th-Last Day of School Grab and Go

Please see below for the minimum day schedule under “Upcoming Dates.” Students will have recess, but will not be served lunch. Instead, Our Child Nutrition Services will distribute grab and go meal bags to all students who indicate they would like to take one home. Teachers are taking a tally of how many of their students would like to take one of the meal bags home, so that CNS can prepare enough bags. Please tell your child to let their teacher know if they would like one. This applies to all students on campus that day, TK-5th.

5th-Grade Promotion and Events

June 4th- 5th-grade promotion pictures with teachers. Since students will need to exit campus with their parents as soon as the promotion ceremony concludes, we will have students take a picture with their teachers and receive their certificates on June 4th. Parents- please have your child wear their 5th-grade t-shirt on June 4th and June 8th as well.

June 7- 5th-grade promotion- Please click here to read the entire email regarding the 5th-grade promotion. If you haven't already done so, RSVP using this link if you plan to attend in person.

Additional Information

Parents will use the LumiSight website (not the app) to complete a symptom screening on the day of the event. On the login page, click on "I Am A Visitor," which is below the "Log In" button. Here is a screenshot of the website. Please have a screenshot of the clearance badge ready when you enter campus.

There will be no Zoom Meetings or remote learning assignments for 5th-graders on Monday, June 7.

Students will arrive with their parents/guardians on Monday, June 7, and leave with their parents immediately following the ceremony.

June 8th- 5th-grade field day. Students will rotate through 5 different stations of fun! There will be relay races, water balloons, popsicles, music, and other fun events to celebrate our 5th-graders final days at Carrillo.
