September 15, 2019
Dear Carrillo Families,

We have two exciting events coming up that I want to highlight, so you don’t miss out:

October 5th is our Carrillo Classic Golf Tournament at Twin Oaks Golf Course at 1 pm. I played in this tournament last year and will be there again this year. The great thing about the tournament is that it is a four-person scramble (“best shot”) format. This means you do not need to be good at golf at all (which is perfect for me!). You do not need to have a full four-person team to sign-up since the tournament organizers are ready to match you up with other participants. This event is a great way to simultaneously connect with other Carrillo members, have a day of golf, and help fund the PTO programs for our kids. Price includes Round of Golf, Dinner, putting contest, $100 JC golf value pack and awards ceremony. Please click on this link for more information: https://www.myvlink.org/carrillopto/event.php?ID=34870

The second major event coming up is the Carrillo 2019 Fall Bash FallBashSpecTaxID.png taking place on October 19th from 2pm-6pm at Carrillo. The Carrillo Fall Bash is a Family Event brought to you by the Carrillo PTO. Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes and trick o’ treat with their school friends. There will also be music, games, inflatables, local vendors, food trucks, a pumpkin patch and more! Entry to the event is free and includes Pumpkin Craft, Slime-Making and Trick O’ Treating. You can also purchase individual tickets for rides and activities or a $20 Unlimited Bracelet (included with Platinum Pledge Drive donation).

Events this week:

Joel’s Visionary Arts Assembly - September 18

Joel Anderson is an author, artist and international speaker with autism. Our students will build a better understanding and acceptance of children with autism and special needs as well as how to be a good friend. As opposed to making autism or "ability" awareness a one time a year event, we would like to build true empathy, compassion, and awareness, and this assembly will start the conversation. Our aim is that every child feels connected to our community and I am optimistic that it will include those with significant social difficulties as well. Please see the flyer attached and the following description of the friendship project we are supporting as well.
September 20- PTO Meeting at 9 am

Carrillo Singers Sign-Ups

The Carrillo Singers, under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Larochelle and Mrs. Amy Odenwalder is a choir that meets once a week before school. There will have TWO sessions; one in the fall and one in the spring. In the fall we would like to invite all first, second and third graders to participate. The spring session will be for third, fourth and fifth-grade students.

For the Fall session, The Carrillo Jr. Singers will be working on a program for the dine out at Mendocino Farms in Bressi Ranch, The San Marcos Tree Lighting Ceremony and the Camp Pendleton Marines. See mandatory dates below.

The Spring Session, The Leo Carrillo SIngers, 3rd-5th-grade students will perform at a dine out at Flippin Pizza, A District Festival, and a full-length performance at Carrillo. This group will start rehearsals in February. Look for more info after winter break.

Because our chorus is strictly voluntary and FREE, it is essential that you carefully review the information below before committing your child to participate. Signing up for Carrillo Jr. Singers or the Leo Carrillo Singers is a huge commitment. We expect your child to attend all rehearsals, memorize music, and participate in our performances. Participation in a performing chorus is a cooperative effort where all depend upon each other to make the program a success.

We look forward to seeing our many Jr. singers at our first meeting this semester on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:30 am in room 25. If, after reviewing the information, you and your child are willing to commit, please sign-up at the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0F4CAFA72FA5FA7-carrillo1

Here are the Carrillo Jr Singers mandatory performance dates:

1. Wednesday, November 13, 2019: Time-TBA at Mendocino Farms in Bressi Ranch 2. Wednesday, December 4th, 2019: Time 5:30-7:00 Dress Rehearsal at San Marcos Civic Center

3. Saturday, December 7th, 2019: Time-TBA Performance at San Marcos Tree Lighting Ceremony

4. Friday, December 20th, 2019: Time-TBA Camp Pendleton Marines Breakfast

We look forward to an exciting year of music!

Attendance Reminders

If your child needs to miss school, please call our attendance line at (760) 290-2929 to inform our attendance clerk of the absence. Failure to provide a reason for the absence within 72 hours of your child missing school will result in an unverified absence/truancy. Informing the teacher or any other office staff members other than Mary Ann White will not be sufficient. We will be updating the homepage on the website to make this attendance line easier to access.

Volunteer/Visitor Check-In

All visitors on campus must bring a driver's license/ID to sign in. We are required by the District to have all visitors sign into the Identa-kid system, which does a basic background check to ensure our students' safety. This system requires a driver's license/ID scan to process, and there is no workaround.

Parking Lot Reminders:

Please do not park on the side of the main lot by the solar panels during pick up or drop off. This area is staff parking only. I'm referring to the spaces that face Leo Carrillo Ranch. The reason for not allowing parents to park here is to keep the steady flow of cars through our lot. When cars pull in and pull out of these spaces between 8-8:45 or 3:10-3:45, it stops the traffic behind them which back-up vehicles to Poinsettia. If you need to park and walk, please park in the overflow lot. Not only does this keep the traffic through our lot running smoothly, it is also the safest way to escort your child to and from the school due to the consistent sidewalk along the fence.

Important Dismissal Procedures:

- Please do not park in the center staff lot including the side lot which does not have solar panels

- For safety, please make sure your child is loading the car from the passenger side of the vehicle.

- To help the efficiency of pick-up, please do not exit your car to look for your child.

- New! Drive-Up Signs Please place your drive-up sign on your car's dashboard at pick up.

Pledge Drive (from PTO)

We have hit $20,000 in The Annual PTO Pledge Drive, this is Carrillo Elementary’s annual giving campaign and we still have a ways to get to our goal of $55,000! This fundraiser is 100% of the funds back to Carrillo!! Once we hit our first goal of $25,000, Mr. Pope will spray paint his hair BLUE!!! This year, we are offering many levels for everyone and even a monthly payment option. We have also included all of the Family Events and Spirit wear in the top tier levels. 2019-2020 school year will mark the 20th year that Carrillo Elementary first opened its doors to education and with that we have pair this fundraiser with a decorative tile that your family can create to be a part of the school’s 20th Celebration Wall for many years to come!!

The money raised helps the PTO provide essential programs and services to the school such as STEAM Lab, Running Club, Teacher support, Reading & Math Intervention, many enriching Assemblies and a ton of Program Supplies as well as so much more. All donations are tax deductible and many companies offer a match program, please visit www.carrillopto.com to make your pledge or get more info.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!
