Dear Carrillo Families,

School Site Council Meeting This Week
The School Site Council (SSC) is a unique school group made up of parents, school staff, and administrators to improve student achievement through the compliant and efficient use of selected funds. The primary purpose is to write or make revisions of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) including the use of funds based on data and monitoring. Our SSC is made up of six parents that were elected by the school community, the principal, and five staff members selected by teachers. All members (except the principal and AP) serve two-year terms. The 2018-2019 Carrillo School Site Council members are:

Elyse Kopp (1st-Grade Teacher)
Jamie Orlando (2nd-grade Teacher)
Summer Martinez (3rd-grade Teacher)
Lisa Mariano (4th-grade Teacher)
Jennifer Smith (Office Manager)
Gary Pope (Principal)
Lauren Shroyer (Parent)
Jennifer Robinson (Parent)
Amy Larson (Parent)
Jennifer Kerschbaum (Parent)
Mandy Freeman (Parent)
Blair Mettee (Parent)

This Thursday, September 27, we will hold our first School Site Council meeting in the school library at 5:30 pm. Carrillo Classic Golf Tournament
Signups for the Golf Tournament has been extended to September 28. We are still looking for more golfers to fill a few more teams to make this event as successful and as fun as possible. You do not need to organize a four-person team to participate. Feel free to sign up as a single, and the tournament organizers will place you. You do not need to be great a golfer either! I’m a novice at best, but I’ll be out there. Click here to register or go to CarrilloPTO.com.

Leo Carrillo Singers
Leo Carrillo Singers starts on Thursday, September 27 in the music room 25 at 7:30-8:30 a.m. If you love to sing and dance, please signup and check out the following poster. See you then.

All-School Flag Salute This Friday at 8:45 followed by an awards ceremony for all Carrillo Citizens of the Month
This year, we will hold two Flag Salutes per month, one at the beginning and one at the end of the month. The Flag Salute at the beginning of the month will mainly be used to introduce the monthly character focus, teach students how to exemplify the character trait and motivate students to work toward our school vision and live the Carrillo Way. Similar to a pep rally. The purpose of the end of month Flag Salute is to celebrate the hard work, talent, and accomplishments of our students. Flag salutes are also used to highlight our programs, special events, make school-wide announcements, etc. Most importantly, we hope to make all Flag Salutes a community event that is fun, entertaining, and motivating for students and families. Thus, parents are always welcome to attend.

Since this Friday is the end of the month, we will recognize Citizens of the Month award recipient for “Self Control,” Running Club Awards, and other special recognition. If your child is receiving an award, you will be invited by your child’s teacher via paper notice or email. Following the Flag Salute, all award recipients and their parents will go to the multi-purpose room so we can recognize each child individually.

Kindergarten and Preschool students are welcome to attend All-School Flag Salutes. If you have a PM kinder or PM preschool student, you are welcome to bring them to the Flag Salute, but they must be under your supervision at all times. The PM kinder KOC group will be in attendance as well.

Kindergarten Flag Salutes are also taking place this Friday in front of the school. AM Kinder Flag Salute is at 11:25 am. PM Kinder Flag Salute is at 11:50 am. Awards for kindergarten students will be passed out during the kindergarten Flag Salutes.
