Activities During School Break
Movement Activities – 10-15 minutes every day
We do these movement activities every day in class. Students may pick 3 or 4 activities to do to help them get focused and ready for doing work. These are also great to do 1 or two between other activities. We created a list of 15-20 activities together. Here are some of them that the students will know how to do. Stand and notice; Stand on one leg with foot forward or back; Bounce; Crossovers forward and backward with regular arms or big arms; Flying; Willow tree; Figure 8; Touch your nose; Hook it up; Reach up high then touch your toes; Hop hop hop;
Reading – Please continue to read 20-60 minutes every day.
If books and other reading material are not available, there are many books and things to read online in the Benchmark application which may be accessed through the Clever sign-in.
Student Writing- Daily writing in the form of a journal or diary is excellent. 15-20 minutes is a good start. If students wish to write stories, they may start on paper, then write it on a Google doc.
Students have experience with the following online resources. Please allow the students to do this work on their own, without help (other than to clarify the instruction) as these programs give students work at the level they need. If they receive help in answering questions that they do not know how to solve, the program will give them harder work for which they are not yet ready.
Reflex – 20 minutes daily
Lexia – 20 minutes daily
Dance Mat Typing – 15 minutes daily
Benchmark – 30 minutes daily We are currently in Unit 7, any work from Units 1-7 is great. There are small books, the Unit Magazines, and activities with spelling words and phonics patterns.
The following activities are available to students to use as they enjoy. Daily work in any or all of these is great.
