Dear Carrillo Families,

To all of the Carrillo moms, I hope you all are having a wonderful Mother’s Day! It seems fitting to note that your mommy role has expanded significantly this year due to the school closure. Thank you for your partnership in Distance Learning! We appreciate all of your hard work, patience, and determination to make Distance Learning a positive experience for your children. We are also very grateful for the outpouring of appreciation and encouragement to our teachers last week! I know we all would agree, Carrillo Moms Rock!!

Distance Learning Update

I hope everyone had a chance to read the latest communication from Superintendent Dr. Garcia. If not, please click this attachment: Update to Community_May 8 (1).pdf  Some key points that apply to Carrillo include:

  • Distance Learning will continue indefinitely
  • We will hold a 5th-grade promotion virtually (more details later)
  • Students will receive a second-semester summary report card. The summary will be a combination of our student’s academic proficiency level in Reading, Writing, and Math as of March 13th and his/her participation and engagement in ELA and Math class instruction and assignments after April 13th. In addition, teachers will prepare brief comments specific to each individual student. This streamlined approach will offer students, parents, and teachers meaningful feedback that will help to inform next year’s academic needs.

SMUSD District Employee of the Year!

Whitney McCoy, our talented, kind, highly intelligent, hard-working, positive, empathetic, inclusive, and overall AMAZING librarian has been selected as the SMUSD District Employee of the Year. Although we aren’t surprised, we are so proud of this recognition of Mrs. McCoy!! Please join me in congratulating her!

Flag Salutes

We will begin holding virtual Flag Salutes during the week of May 18. Each grade-level will receive its own Flag Salute. Student Council, Mrs. Keeton, and I are busily preparing these presentations for students. I will have more information for you later this week.

Resources for Families in Need

We know this pandemic has affected families in a multitude of ways. Here are some resources and links that may be helpful:

Yearbook Reminders

Our yearbook company, TreeRing, is now set up to deliver the yearbook to your home address.

If you already purchased a yearbook, you must log on to your TreeRing account and update the address to get free shipping to your home.

Please make sure you update the SHIPPING ADDRESS on your ORDER and not just the address on your profile. Since there are two areas to enter your address, we want to make sure you input it in the correct place.

Yearbooks can still be purchased and shipped to your home.
