My name is Leah Fisher and I began teaching 34 years ago right here in North County. I have been here at Carrillo since the opening. I've always loved and believed in children.  I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I believe in inspiring children to be the best that they can be because they chose to...not because they are told to. I believe in tapping into their natural curiosity and wonder and let that drive them to learn and expand their knowledge. I want them to believe in themselves and get the idea that they can make the world a better place by their action and attitude.
While I have spent the majority of my career in the primary grades of K-2, I have also taught all grades, K-5. In all those years of teaching, I have found my greatest passion to be teaching children to read. I am also eager to show them how to be their own problem solvers. I like to instill in students that they can do anything they put their mind to..... if they stay calm and solve the problem. It is delightful to watch 5 olds get this idea! I like to create a classroom climate that is compassionate, kind, friendly and supportive of one another. We have a ton of fun with brain growing activities.
I am married to my best friend, Zac Sestina. He really understands, supports and appreciates what I do. He is a local realtor and contributes to my classroom and this school in many ways. I have an amazing daughter that attends Berkeley. She inspires me daily. She is as bright, tenacious and curious as they come. I have learned so much from watching her grow. I also have 3 wonderful step daughters who are all so different as learners and people. They teach me so much about the diversity in how children learn and what motivates them.

I feel that I am so lucky that I have found a career that continues to inspire me on a daily basis. I will do everything I can to make sure your child has the best year possible. I want you to come to me with any questions or concerns. I am very approachable. I am a mother myself so I know how many heart strings you have attached to your child. I welcome parents and visitors to come in anytime. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions at leah.fisher@smusd.org.

I look forward to meeting you.
