Dear Parents of Second Grade Campers,

Welcome to Camp Happy Hamilton where learning is an adventure! I am looking forward to the 2019/2020 camp year, and getting a chance to know your camper, as well as your family! Second grade is a fun year of growth and exploration, and I feel lucky to be a part of it! Here are a few things to know right away. Please look over everything and come prepared to Back To School night on Wednesday, August 21, 2019  from 5:30-6:30 pm with any questions that you have. Everything will be explained with more detail that night. Please arrive promptly, so that we can begin on time and get through all the important information you will need to know to make Camp Happy Hamilton a success for your camper.

Daily Schedule

8:15-8:45 Morning Recess 8:45 School Starts 8:45-10:50 Instructional Time

10:50-11:10 Recess 11:10-12:15 Instructional Time 12:15-1:00 Lunch 1:00-1:50 Specials 1:50-3:10 Instructional Time

P.E. Days: Tuesdays and Fridays. Please have your camper wear appropriate shoes on these days.

Birthdays: Please keep items for birthday celebrations limited to healthy snacks or small giveaways. Please look on the district website to see what is considered a healthy snack.

Grading: Report cards will be sent out in February and June. We will have “Goal Setting Conferences” the week of October 14-18, 2019. If you have any specific questions or concerns, I would be happy to meet with you sooner to discuss them.

Food: Second grade campers are growing rapidly and working hard all day long so please remember how important a healthy breakfast is each morning. Lunches should be filling and balanced, so the campers keep their energy all day long. Also, please do not forget a morning snack for recess, along with plenty of water for your camper. During the first month of camp your campers tend to be extra hungry due to the long days, please plan accordingly. Also, please remind your camper to not share food at camp. Our campsites have children with food allergies and we need to keep all the campers as safe as possible.

PTO: PTO is looking for new volunteers! Our PTO is a crucial part of Carrillo Elementary and we love to support them in any way that we can! There are many different types of jobs and support opportunities available, please let me know if you are interested.

Volunteer Opportunities: At campsite #8 we LOVE parent involvement! If you are interested in volunteering see the list of possible options below. There are all types of jobs and commitment levels. I will do my best as camp director to work with you to accommodate your schedule and interests. I will explain more at Back to School Night.

Supplies: The most important supply that your camper needs is a clipboard. This is the way that information gets to you from the camp director. Campers must bring their clipboard EVERYDAY! Please remember to look at the clipboard each night, remove papers and return anything that needs to be returned. I recommend purchasing either a clipboard that includes a case or strap to secure the papers. Campers have a lot of papers and they easily fall on the floor and get lost. I also recommend a pack of Crayola Twistable colored pencils 18 ct because they do not need to be constantly sharpened. Lastly, each camper will need a pair of ear buds or small fold-able head phones to use with the Chromebooks in the classroom.

Homework: It is important that after working hard at camp all day your camper gets to spend his or her time at home playing, relaxing and rejuvenating for the next day with family and friends. Reading for 20 minutes each night is the most important thing that your camper can do at home. I provide your camper with plenty of time during camp to work on our electronic programs. If they need additional time I will let you know.

Closed Campus Policy: Carrillo is a closed campsite during camp hours. This means that parents MUST check in through the front office with an ID and get a sticker badge to enter camp. Only those parents who are expected at camp (volunteers) will be allowed to enter. Parents unfortunately may not stop by unexpectedly. *Campus will be open in the morning to all parents for the first day of school so that you may walk your camper to class.

Drop Off: Camp starts promptly at 8:45 am. The campers can be dropped off as early as 8:15 am to play on the supervised playground or participate in running club. They may hang their backpacks on their designated hook outside of campsite #8 and then go straight back out on the playground until the bell rings. When the first bell rings they will walk to dot #8 on the playground and line up. I will come out and get them there.

Pick Up: Campers who are being picked up out front will be walked out front by the camp director and will sit down with their grade level. In an effort to make pick up more efficient we are asking that the campers sit and watch for their parents, and not start homework or eat or drink anything. There will be supervision out front to help make pick up as smooth as possible. If your camper is being picked up at the ranch, please make sure that they know where to meet you or their sibling.

Contact Information: I am available to meet and answer any questions before or after school. Please either send me an e-mail or Remind message to set up an appointment. Please allow 24 hours for me to get back to you.
